The music-making, the flowers, a delicious and romantic dinner "at home" made for a romantic Anniversary. But, as soon as I turn on the news, there is a pit in my stomach. What is this country coming to? There are no words. Just sorrow, outrage and fear. Feeling sympathy for the victims of police brutality, and victims of rioters and the intentional looting and destruction of our cities; outrage at the escalation of violence to levels we have not seen in nearly 50 years; fear for our future- as if the Pandemic wasn't enough! Can it get much worse? How much more pain and suffering must be endured? These are unprecedented times- or are they not? We are indeed "at war". At war against a virus, and now potentially a civil war and maybe a WW III.
Who can bring about PEACE, for G-d's sake? LET'S JUST PRAY FOR PEACE AND ACT PEACEFULLY.
Let's also remember Winston Churchill's quote from 1948: "Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it." This was originally was expressed by the writer and philosopher in 1905, George Santayana, as "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
AS A SOCIETY AND AS INDIVIDUALS IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT WE LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKES!
